"Rainbow Beak: A Toucan's Colorful World"
Toucan (Ramphastos species)
The toucan is a well-known symbol of the Amazon, distinguished by its brightly colored bill that is nearly as long as its body. The plumage is equally vibrant, with patches of green, yellow, red, and white. Its dimensions range from 31 cm to 61 cm.
The species lives in lowland moist forests and montane cloud forests, nesting and roosting in tree cavities. Toucans are constantly heard in rainforests, but they are rarely seen because they prefer to stay high up in the canopy.
They are mostly frugivores (fruit eaters) and prefer ripe fruits. Toucans use their bills to pick fruit and hold it at the tip. Then they tilt their heads back and swallow the food.Toucans eat spiders, insects, lizards, and snakes, as well as nesting birds and eggs, in addition to fruits and berries.
